CAMP: David Mook x Kelly Ewing
On Tuesday 5th May 2020, I received an email from my fellow MAFA, David Mook, that read as follows:
Attached to the email was the following video, in which David responds to the statue of ‘David’ by Michelangelo, discussing why he thinks the artwork falls within the canon of ‘Camp’, as pointed out in Sontag’s seminal essay.
Having already read Susan Sontag’s ‘Notes on Camp’ relatively recently, I was really excited to have received David’s invitation to discuss the notion of camp. The video I received from David was a video of “Mamãe Eu Quero ” by Carmen Miranda / Garoto. Below is the video I was sent by David:
