Letter in Lockdown: 2

Letters between friends, 2020

I text during the day
I Face Time
I WhatsApp
I chat

But I don’t receive much through the post
Other than bills and junk mail, and from the online shopping hosts
Mostly expected, and not really a surprise
Sign for your groceries and take your baked beans inside

So receiving your letter was something new
Expected, but also out of the blue
Each day passing, and waiting for the post
Will it arrive today, or be an invitation to take another loan

Waiting for a letter is not instant like a text
You have to be patient, learn to wait and expect
In a world where immediacy is the norm
Perhaps our changing times force a change in our thoughts

So so true Mary-Ann. I handed over a commission in Sunday and yesterday had a card in the post thanking me and telling me what it meant to her. I’ll keep that card. It meant more to me that she had had to find the card, think what to write , find a stamp and then go out and post it – the day after I delivered it. And because I’m able to keep it I will be able to look back and have a visual aid to my remembering. If saying something is really important I will always try to physically write it in a letter. Love the sentiments in the blog x
